Shirley Kyles Wikipedia, Age and Children - Al Green's ex-wife

Shirley Kyles was married with Al Green, an American singer, songwriter, pastor and record producer. They tied knot on June 15, 1977, in Memphis. Together they have three daughters.

Her ex-husband, Al Green was known for recording a series of soul hit singles in the early 1970s. He is the winner of 11 Grammy Awards.

Shirley Kyles hails from Chicago. She was one of his backing vocalists and an employee at his church. She joined the choir at West Point Missionary Baptist Church, the church where he pastored, when she was just 14 years old.

She eventually became a backup singer for his gospel group, The Trumpeteers, and a full-time employee at the church.

Shirley Kyles and Al Green Divorce

In 1978, Shirley Kyles first filed for divorce on the ground of cruelty and irreconcilable differences. She had been suffering from mental and physical abuse for several years prior to filing for divorce, and it had become too much for her to bear. She had reached her breaking point and decided to take legal action.

Then, in 1981, she filed for divorce again, this time citing domestic abuse on the part of Green.

In a counterclaim, Green said that she had been subjected to harsh and inhuman treatment. Shirley said under oath in a 1982 divorce case that in 1978, while she was five months pregnant, Green hit her with a boot because she refused to have sex.

She said she was assaulted and had two stitches for a cut to her head. She sued for divorce after the event, but they later reunited. Shirley claims they split up many times because of "too frequent and too severe" beatings. Green first denied hitting his wife, but later confessed on oath that he had done so in 1982. They officially split up in February of 1983.

After all this, Green made a settlement to pay her $432,800 annually for child support and alimony. In 1995, inspired by the tragedy of Nicole Brown Simpson, Shirley went public with her story of abuse.

Al Green's Children

Al Green has seven children: three sons, Chris Burse Sr., Al Green Jr., and Trevor, plus four daughters, Alva Lei, Rubi Renee, Kora Kishe (with Shirley Green), and Kala. By the 1990s, Green was reportedly remarried.
