American chess grandmaster, Emory Tate was most remembered as the late father of modern day cultural icons Andrew Tate and Tristan Tate. For the six times, he won the Indiana state championship six times in, 1995, 1996, 2000, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
He was also a prominent member of the African-American community and one of the best chess players in the United States.

Emory Andrew Tate Jr. was born in Chicago, Illinois, United States on December 27, 1958 (age 56 as of 2015). His father was Emory Andrew Tate Sr., and his mother was Emma Cox. He was the ninth of ten children.
At an early age, he picked up the skill of playing chess. They eventually settled in Elkhart, Indiana, after relocating from Addison, Illinois, near Chicago.
He went to the public Concord High School in Elkhart, from which he graduated in 1976. After that, he went to Indiana University to take part in the Spanish Honors Program.
