Jean Goebel is married with Dan Rather from 1957 and it has been over 66 years they are together. Couple resides in New York City and Austin, Texas.

They have faced many downturn and changes throughout their long-lasting marriage either is about Dan's successful journalism career whether his work with Houston Chronicle or his career as a reporter for KTRK-TV. They went together and their love and commitment to each other have remained strong.

"I was working at KTRH radio in Houston and she came to work in a secretarial position. In my case, it was love at first sight. Not only was she so intelligent, she was smoking hot, and it took me a while to convince her to marry me. When I was covering the Civil Rights Movement, there was a year when I was only home for 31 days, and I was in Vietnam for the better part of 1965 to 1966. But I never take it for granted.
You have to work at it, and having two wonderful children has helped. Mostly thanks to Jean, they have grown into very good adults."

Both have made significant contributions to journalism and have earned the trust and admiration of their family and fans. Her husband, Dan had rheumatic fever from roughly age 11-and-a-half to 14.

He was editor of the school newspaper, The Houstonian and worked for KSAM-FM radio in Huntsville, calling junior high, high school, and Sam Houston State football game.

Dan was born to Daniel Irvin Rather Sr., a ditch digger and pipe layer, and the former Byrl Veda Page. His family moved to Houston when he was a child.
