Three people were injured and two students and two teachers were killed when a 14-year-old boy opened fire at Winder, Georgia's Apalachee High School on Wednesday.

Since the beginning of the school year, this is the first mass shooting at a US school. Chris Hosey, the director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, stated at a press conference that he will be charged and tried as an adult.

According to Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith, the gunman, who was carrying a semiautomatic rifle known as a "AR platform style weapon," was soon confronted by deputies stationed at the school. The suspect promptly dropped to the ground and turned himself in.

After being placed under arrest, the suspect talked with the investigators, who thought he was acting alone but wouldn't say if they knew why he did it.

Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, two 14-year-old students, and Christina Irimie, a 53-year-old teacher, were among the dead, according to officials. Recuperation is anticipated for all nine of the hospitalized patients, Smith informed reporters.

Later, the Federal Bureau of Investigation revealed that it had looked into cyberthreats threatening a 2023 school shooting.

About these threats, a 13-year-old and his father in neighboring Jackson County had been questioned by local law enforcement. Officials from Georgia confirmed that the teen was connected to the suspect who is currently being held, even though the FBI did not name the teen in their statement.

Colt Gray Parents

The relationship between Gray's parents began promisingly. His parents purchased a small farm in Barrow County, Georgia, just outside of the college town of Athens, in July 2011, not long after he was born.

His mother, Marcee Gray, an industrial engineer, later stated on LinkedIn that they intended to "create a non-profit, therapeutic riding school for local, under-privileged children."

However, she wrote that her husband, Colin Gray, had undergone at least three "major" back surgeries, which contributed to the derailment of those plans. According to property records, the couple, who had three children, later sold the farm in 2019.

According to court documents, the family was evicted from one house in July 2022 by a county sheriff's deputy for nonpayment of rent after they moved and was sued by several landlords.

Sheriff's records indicate that during the eviction, deputies gathered three firearms, one of which was an AR-15, and at least one hunting bow, which they stored for protection. The documents state that the weapons were later "released to owner."
